The Huntly Structure Plan is a project being undertaken by the City of Greater Bendigo working in collaboration with the Managed Growth Strategy, “Imagine Greater Bendigo Project.” It is estimated that Bendigo will grow with an additional 80,000 residents by 2050. The strategy will provide a framework for how Greater Bendigo should grow to accommodate this growth.
The Plan is currently being drafted and is awaiting the draft Managed Growth Strategy. The Managed Growth Strategy will establish a long-term residential framework plan for urban Bendigo including what additional land may be needed in greenfield areas including Huntly to meet population and housing growth needs. The plan will consider future expansions, explore opportunities for additional commercial and retail opportunities and consider the infrastructure needs of the community for the next 30 years.
Throughout the development of the Huntly Structure Plan, the Community Reference Group has provided the opportunity to bring community, landowners, businesses and other key stakeholders together, to develop a plan which will help shape Huntly over time.
The community reference group was established in August 2022 made up of 12 Huntly community applicants. Two members of this reference group are on the committee of the Huntly Community Hub, Nicole Smith and Tammy Herne. They have been working with the City of Greater Bendigo in workshops and meetings to assist in developing and shaping the future of Huntly.
The winning vision statement:
“Huntly, a progressive community focusing on providing for significant population growth improved infrastructure, while still maintaining our landscape and environment. Linking Huntly’s historical community with our family values in a semi-rural environment while upholding our independent identity for the future.”
